Lend me thine ears, my friend

I swear I'll give them back to thee

And I'll sing you the song that they would play

Before the show that's starring me

If my life were on tv

For all America to see

She had her head, her heart

Her jewelry and the clothes she wore

He had a face that, shall we say

Only a mother could adore

And every lonely day

This boy and girl would pray

They would meet someone

One day

Turn around

And you swear

You can see your life's direction

Over minutes

Over hours

And over days

Like you're seein' through the haze

He popped the question

She said yes, they had their wedding day

Had a couple of problems

But everything turned out just fine, alright, ok

He went to work each day

A baby on the way

There were so many things to learn

So many things they wanted to do

And he isn't a millionaire

But he says he could have been, it might be true

The market crashed that day

It didn't go his way

But that's ok

When, there, in her eyes, in her smile

He can see his life's direction

Over hours

Over weeks

And over years

Like you're finding new frontiers

With a couple of kids

Never got rid of that old furniture

But it wasn't so bad

The times they had were unforgettable for sure

The children grew up strong and wise

And mom and dad could realize

Time is like a sieve

Not really ours to live

It just unfolds

Not all your plans take hold

In the end it's just as well

The story isn't much to tell

But it's such a beautiful thing

I found a book photographs

Of how we used to be, now turn the page

Up on the mantle shelf

The wedding picture yellowing with age

A young couple way back when

It seemed that this could never end

But then

You close your eyes

And at last

You see it all has come full-circle

Through generations

 All your life

It's drawing near

No more questions, no more fears

Something took you through those years
